Every act in our lives can become happiness

Have you ever noticed that we are always waiting for the result of an action, an event, projected toward the future, our eyes fixed on the outcome, on the arrival, waiting for something else, for someone else, for something better, for somewhere else.

I climb the mountain, thinking only of what I will see from the summit.

I hurry to read the book to find out more, to know what happens next, always what happens next, always going further. I ask myself: "How does it end?"

I wait for the train, I don't live. I'm tense toward the train's arrival, my neck craned toward the bend where it will appear. "Is it coming? " And of course, once on the train, I can't wait to get there!

At work, I wait for breaks, the end of the day, the weekend, vacations, retirement. "When I've met my soulmate...", "Ah, if only I were free", "When I have money", "When I've moved",  "When I have time"... or else it's "Ah, if only I had known", "Before it was better!".

And in the end, I don't live and the years go by. The countdown has begun and I still haven't savored the precious life that is offered to me every second: the softness of the air on my face, the eyes of the stranger who passes me, the hill so alive in front of me, the dance of the clouds in the sky, a relaxing afternoon, the warmth of my blanket, a roof over my head, the winks of the sun...

Yesterday, I realized for the first time that I loved relaxing! And every act has become a true pleasure. Every gesture of our lives  can become happiness, every moment, every second, even just breathing.

Bom dia, Snobe

Excellent post! We must slow our lives down and enjoy each and every day.
I echo Bill's comment. We live in a fast paced society and slowing down helps us to see things we might otherwise miss and/or appreciate in our daily lives.

Debemos hacer un paro de vez en cuando y danos ese tiempo para mosotros mismos, porque después saldremos fortalecidos.

Truly there is an art to relaxing. It is hard for me to unwind. As they say old habits are hard to quit. Growing up I had a mother who never let me relax. She was very critical. And even if I have worked hard to forget those days..sometimes it haunts me and of course, it comes out in my stories from time to time. It is quite a paradox when you want things to change and yet be in the present. Thanks for being here thanks for your comments.

Nice one! So important to recognise every little action that we do. We often tend to ignore the real present and focus on either on the irretrievable past or the unpredicatable future!
