she takes refuge to the neighbors

She realizes the enormity of her blunder, but he remains undeterred, and the little troupe finally goes to the ball, where they impress everyone with their distinction and grace. Back home, he congratulates himself  to the success of his project, with great kindness, neglecting to congratulate his main actress: the young woman.

Deeply hurt, she takes refuge to the neighbors, abandons her ideas for those of the middle class, and decides to leave him. The following day, he tries to convince her to come back, but torn between her feelings for him and the prospect of possible independence, she refuses as she has refused so many things before.

He realized, as he returned home lonely, that he has finally gotten used to her. While he listens again to a record on which he had recorded her voice, she entered his office and asked for her slippers.

It is always intriguing how we cope with each other. Sure, there is that chemistry thing in the beginning..but can it go the distance? Some get the 10-year itch. While others can't hack it for 6 weeks..Then there are some of us in for the long haul. Oh, we know their jokes. We know how to finish their sentences. And sometimes, they don't tell us until a few decades later how they never liked your potato salad..and I might find myself burning the bacon..just because.

Thanks for your comments. Thank you for reading. All the best with your writing series. It is so interesting.

Relationships are always on going. Sometimes, you know them too well and still not know them at all. It interesting..bringing in the neighbors. It was funny how I used to know them so well. There was a time, I thought the kid next door might move in. I don't know my neighbors that well anymore, but I think when you are young you take your chances. I can see both are standing their ground in this piece. All the best to your writing and much much more.
What an interesting short story! I reminds me of having expectations and not seeing the whole picture.

You short poem reminds me how a relationship really works. Both parties must contribute to maintain balance.

A veces asumimos que la persona se quedara para siempre y no es así. Te mando un beso.
